In my words

Performance had taught me that music can change the energy of a room; research let me ask how. I began hearing every musical decision as part of a shared emotional arc.

What I did
  • Studied musical form and analysis with Prof. Miyake through weekly individual meetings and biweekly group sessions.
  • Used tools including form diagrams to map how musical structures develop across a performance.
  • Connected analytical methods from music research with questions I had first encountered through performance and teaching.
